Venture Theatre Produces the Musical ‘Hair’
“Hair,” with music by Galt MacDermot and lyrics by James Rado and Gerome Ragni, is
based on the book by Rado and Ragni.
Venture Theatre at 2317 Montana Avenue, across from the historic depot, presents
the play now through September 12. It is directed by Robert Brian Wood with
musical direction by Timber Venard. Betsy Harris does the choreography and Paul
Jangula is the technical director.
This emotionally rich revival of “The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical” from 1967, delivers the intense joy and anguish of that bi-polar state called
youth. The kids of “Hair” are cuddly, sweet, madcap and ecstatic. They’re also angry, hostile, confused and scared as hell – and not just of the Vietnam War, which threatens to devour the male members of
their tribe. They’re frightened of how the future is going to change them and of not knowing what
comes next.

Show dates are August 20-21, and 27-29, September 2-4 and 9-12. Show times are
Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m.
